School Committee OKs Handbooks, Adds Saturday Detention
School Committee · Meeting of August 26, 2026
Gloucester schools add Saturday detentions, overhaul dress code review at superintendent's first meeting. The School Committee unanimously approved updated elementary, O'Malley and high school handbooks, including a new Saturday detention option and an artificial-intelligence use policy. Principal Ferrella said the high school's unenforced dress code needs a legal review before any rewrite, warning it "can easily be challenged." Superintendent Amy Pascarello reported a Healey administration "Fair Share" funding boost died in the House Ways and Means Committee, but the committee accepted a $423,733 EEC preschool grant and a $40,000 civics grant, and voted to recommend the City Council pay a $46,980.60 Massachusetts Nurses Association settlement.
Chair Kathy Clancy was recognized for a statewide school committee service award.
