Gloucester Committee Backs Grants, Board Appointment

School Committee · Meeting of August 12, 2026

Gloucester School Committee hears new superintendent's entry plan, approves $148,000 in grants. The board voted 6-0 to place the incoming superintendent, identified as Amy, on the North Shore Education Consortium Board and accepted a $36,760 Perkins career-and-technical grant and a $111,331 21st Century Community Learning Center grant for fiscal 2027, alongside an unspecified McKinney-Vento award. Administrator Kathy reported roughly 580 students, nearly 20 percent of enrollment, attended summer programs, saying "it just really felt like school was still in session." A committee member, Melissa, pressed the superintendent on pacing, saying "I guess I'm just anxious for change," while the superintendent said "drastic changes won't happen until the entry plan comes." Mentor Cindy Taylor, 17 years into the state's induction program, called the plan "all about teaching and learning."
