Gloucester Licensing Board Approves Midori Restaurant Liquor License Transfer

GLOUCESTER — January 14, 2025 — Gloucester Licensing Board approves long-sought all-alcoholic license transfer to Midori Chinese Japanese. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to transfer a dormant Section 12 annual all-alcoholic beverage license from Tavern Management Corp., formerly 7 on the Harbor at 30 Western Avenue, to Number One Gloucester Buffet Inc., doing business as Midori Chinese Japanese at 32 to 36 Washington Street, in a $55,000 purchase agreement. Chair Melissa Prince called the transfer "one of the most exciting" in her five or six years on the board, noting Midori is the city's only sit-down Asian restaurant. The board also approved a change of manager to Peter Dong, subject to his completing TIP certification, and an alteration of premises expanding seating from 42 to 46. In a separate matter, the board granted a 90-day temporary closure to Granite Cove Venue LLC, doing business as The Cut at 177 Main Street, after owner Tom O'Grady told the board he was reorganizing leadership and bringing in an experienced operator, with a required update appearance set for March 11. All three actions — along with a block renewal of 11 common victualler licenses and approvals for Annie's Variety, Short & Main, Machaca Tacos and Tequila, and entertainment licenses for St. Peter's Club and Maritime Gloucester — passed unanimously.
