GLOUCESTER — The Gloucester City Council approved a special permit for a 40-unit mixed-use development at 150 Main Street on a 9-0 roll-call vote. Council President Tony Gross moved the SCP 2026-3 permit for applicant Gloucester Maine LLC; Councilor Anna Kimberly seconded. The council also approved, unanimously, a new DPW trash and recycling fee schedule effective October 1 and a $60,211.32 five-year taser lease with Axon Enterprise.

Open Door Director of Advocacy and Development Sarah Groh told councilors that 599 regional families, including many in Gloucester, lost a combined $2.27 million in SNAP benefits since July, with Gloucester residents alone losing $1.2 million, calling it not sufficient to feed a family on "$10 a day." Three zoning hearings, including one that would double minimum lot size in the RC40 district, were continued to October 13.
